Cite des Fleurs was developed between 1847-1890 under strict design
codes. The blocks were divided into euqally-sized narrow plots and were sold to individuals by the 1860s. Buildings here are a combination of terrace houses with front gardens inside of the block- a characteristic different from rear gardens that are prevalent elsewhere - and apartment buildings around the edge of the block. All gardens face a communal passageway, which was later open to the public.
